Description and Impact
Barka's residents primarily rely on agriculture as their main source of income. To address the critical water scarcity issue and improve irrigation efficiency for the farming community, the association collaborated with SEAL to construct a water reservoir. This project also included the installation of essential pipes and an irrigation system to ensure effective water distribution throughout the al Maksam area in Barka.
The completed reservoir now has a water storage capacity of 5,000 m³, effectively doubling the arable land. Previously, the inadequately irrigated land produced around 200 tons of fruits, including cherries, apples, and other varieties. With the expansion of arable land, farmers are now empowered to triple the number of planted trees and cultivate additional crops such as potatoes, onions, and garlic, resulting in an additional annual yield of 70 tons of essential vegetables.
