Description and Impact
Masnaa El Zahra, a rural village in Baalbek, depends heavily on agriculture for its livelihood. However, recurring water shortages—especially during the hot summer months when key springs run dry—severely threaten the sector. These conditions have caused significant crop losses, driving many farmers to abandon their land and migrate to urban areas, deepening local poverty.
In response, the municipality excavated a 6,800-meter horizontal artesian well, successfully reaching a reliable water source. With funding from SEAL, an irrigation network was installed, including excavation work, 110mm PN16 pipes, and other essential accessories. This initiative aims to restore water access to farmland, helping revive the cultivation of almonds, figs, wheat, and barley.
