This project strengthens Lebanon’s struggling dairy sector by supporting small-scale cattle keepers with feed and modern milking equipment, helping them sustain their herds, lower costs, and boost local milk production.

Lebanon’s bovine sector has been severely affected by the economic crisis, which has led to soaring feed costs, a decline in the number of milking cows, and reduced milk production. As a result, dairy products have become less available and increasingly unaffordable for local communities.

To address these challenges, SEAL launched an initiative in North Lebanon to support cattle farmers in Batroun, Koura, Zgharta, and Bcharri. The project aims to help small-scale farmers sustain their herds, reduce production costs, and enhance local dairy output, thereby reducing Lebanon’s reliance on imports.

SEAL’s contribution included:

• Feed Distribution: One month of concentrate feed provided to 131 cattle keepers (owning 1–5 milking cows, totaling 350 cows) at a cost of $51,660.
• Milking Machines: Distribution of 108 two-head milking machines to 108 cattle keepers (owning 6–15 milking cows, totaling 1,044 cows) at a cost of $85,320.
  
  
  

The project was implemented and managed by SEAL’s team in Lebanon, with the support of volunteers, ensuring fair and effective distribution across the four districts.
