Description and Impact
Founded in 2021, Terre Fertile is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting bio-intensive market gardening in Lebanon. Its mission is to foster productive, resilient, and regenerative ecosystems through eco-friendly agricultural practices. The organization focuses on producing affordable organic vegetables, creating job opportunities, and offering educational resources for sustainable development.
With the support of a recent grant from SEAL, Terre Fertile has expanded its operations by:
• Cultivating an additional 1,080 square meters in Mejdlaya.
• Transitioning to solar energy for all garden plots.
• Implementing sustainable water management through drip irrigation and water collection systems.
• Establishing a training center capable of accommodating at least two trainees annually.
• Hosting knowledge-sharing workshops for local farmers.
• Increasing sales to at least five restaurants.
Additionally, the organization remains committed to keeping at least one-third of its production at low cost to ensure affordable organic vegetables, while expanding its reach to two new markets in North Lebanon.
Key improvements also funded by the grant include:
• Installation of solar panels, batteries, and electrical equipment.
• Automation of drip irrigation systems.
• Well cleaning and water reservoir repairs.
• Addition of six water tanks.
• Construction of a 192-square-meter greenhouse.
• Purchase of a professional seed drill and accessories.
These advancements enhance Terre Fertile's ability to scale its sustainable farming operations and strengthen Lebanon’s local food system.
