Description and Impact
Olive oil from Deir Mimas is renowned for its exceptional quality and strong demand. In 2018, the Deir Mimas Cooperative received a $20,850 grant from SEAL to purchase an olive oil separator—a strategic investment that significantly improved oil quality, increased production capacity, and reduced operating costs. Today, the cooperative produces between 20 and 80 tons of olive oil annually, depending on seasonal conditions.
To address frequent power outages and rising generator fuel expenses, SEAL awarded the cooperative an additional grant to install a 60-PV system with a 30 kW capacity solar panels on its roof. Configured as a three-phase hybrid system, the solar installation further lowers production costs and extends operational hours during the harvest season, allowing more farmers to press their olives.
