Description and Impact
Project Overview:
Bleibel Municipality depends on a 300-meter-deep artificial well, constructed in 2013, as its sole source of water. Currently, the well operates using a diesel generator, incurring a monthly cost of $3,500. These high operational expenses significantly limit water extraction and hinder overall productivity.
Objectives:
To establish a sustainable and cost-effective water supply, the municipality partnered with SEAL to transition to solar energy. The project aims to reduce diesel-related operating costs while enhancing both the economic and environmental sustainability of Bleibel village. It also addresses the growing financial strain caused by increasing EDL electricity tariffs, reducing the village’s dependency on the national power grid.
Implementation Completion Summary:
A complete solar energy system has been installed, comprising 288 solar panels along with all necessary equipment, batteries, and accessories to power the water pump, which has a capacity of 77 m³/h. This transition will eliminate diesel-related operational costs and ensure a reliable water supply for approximately 105,000 square meters of agricultural land, benefiting around 20 farmers. Water will be delivered to the fields for 10 hours each day, with the remaining hours dedicated to refilling the Municipality’s water tank—ultimately enhancing the quality of life across the village.
