Description and Impact
SEAL provided a grant of $29,330 to the Municipality of Matrit to produce compost from organic household waste mixed with shredded wood. Eight large composting bins were purchased and placed at one site in the village to collect the organic waste and small bins were also given to each house to facilitate the collection process. To complete the operation, a tuk-tuk was purchased to transport the waste from the houses to the large bins. All households in the village are being trained on this important environmental initiative and requested to contribute to its success.
A shredder will also be provided to transform the pruned tree residues into chips. Organic waste and woods mixed together will provide the best local compost that will be distributed to the farmers in the region to be used as organic fertilizers.
