Description and Impact
The Lebanese Hospital Geitaoui – University Medical Center (LHG-UMC), founded in 1927, is a non-profit academic institution affiliated with the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Lebanese University, Lebanon’s only public medical school. As a leading university medical center, LHG-UMC plays a national role in training future physicians and surgeons. The acquisition of a robotic surgical system is now a strategic necessity, as robotic-assisted surgery has become the international standard of care for complex procedures in urology, gynecology, and general surgery.
Social and Economic Action for Lebanon (SEAL) was approached to support the initiative through a restricted donor contribution of USD 500,000 toward the cost of the surgical robot.
This project goes beyond equipment acquisition to establish Lebanon’s first National Academic Hub for Robotic Surgery at LHG-UMC. Through a strengthened partnership with the Lebanese University and the creation of a certified University Diploma in Robotic Surgery, the center will train the next generation of highly skilled surgeons while improving patient outcomes, institutional competitiveness, and the overall quality of healthcare in Lebanon.
