Description and Impact

In partnership with Saida’s Fishermen Union and the Development for People and Nature Association (DPNA), SEAL funded and distributed 3,650 nets to fishermen in Saida.

Lebanon’s fishing industry had become increasingly fragile as the increased number of fishermen, little government regulation, and deplorable economic conditions have led to the use of dynamite as a fishing method. This dynamite usage destroys the seabed and rapidly depletes fishing stock. SEAL’s donation of fishing nets directly improved the economic sustainability of these impoverished communities.
