Description and Impact
The Municipality of Azour aims to become the first ecologically sustainable village in South Lebanon with a 100% waste-to-energy solution that benefits its residents, its environment and offers a viable alternative to expensive fuel for winter heating. This grant will further the impact of the waste-to-compost initiative started by the Municipality in 2021. The $7,000 funding request will cover the purchase of a briquettes pressing machine, an electric tuc-tuc for transportation and the supplies required to extend the composting initiative for a year. As a result, the full circle of sorting, transporting, composting, and briquettes producing will be achieved. The plan is to distribute the briquettes for free to the villagers to be used as an alternative heating source instead of sky rocketing prices of fuel.
