The local crops in Hasbaya were mostly olive, as they do not require irrigation. However, in springtime, grass grew around the olive trees, competing for their scant water supply, and endangering the trees. To prevent this, the orchards must be plowed every year to ensure needed water supplies for the olive trees. A modest investment was made by SEAL that enhanced the sustainability of an olive grove supporting 100 farmers and their families.
