Description and Impact
Nabha and Baalbek-Hermel have diverse crops including olives, almonds, and apricots. Unfortunately, due to the absence of stable water canals that were required for water to reach lands over a distance of 20km, Nabha suffered from a shortage of water for irrigation. The installation of 5-inch water pipes over a distance of 5km continued the previous work funded by MEPI – which completed renovations of 1km of pipes – furthered this goal. This project took great strides towards sustainability and improved the economic outlook for 2,000 farmers and their families (at a cost of only $14.50 per family).
