Project Aim
Objective:
To ensure sustainable and uninterrupted access to water by powering the village's main water source with renewable solar energy.

Summary:
Kahf El Malloul Municipality is seeking SEAL's support to install a solar-powered energy system to operate the FERGI Spring, the village's sole water source. The project aims to provide a reliable and sustainable water supply for approximately 250 households, particularly to meet agricultural irrigation needs during the summer season.
Currently, water pumping depends on diesel generators, and rising fuel costs significantly limit operating hours, resulting in insufficient water availability. The proposed intervention will install a photovoltaic (PV) solar energy system, including solar panels, an inverter, mounting structures, electrical components, and the construction of a dedicated inverter room and other required civil works on municipal land. The system will enable continuous, cost-effective operation of the existing pumping infrastructure.

Expected Impact:
The project will enable water pumping using clean solar energy, reducing annual pumping costs by $8,000–$10,000 while improving water security and strengthening the resilience of approximately 250 households. It will provide reliable irrigation for at least 100,000 m² of agricultural land, supporting seasonal crops—particularly spring and summer plantations—and fruit trees such as cherry, apple, pear, and olive. The intervention will enhance agricultural livelihoods and contribute to environmentally sustainable local development.

Implementation Plan:
Procure and install the solar-powered pumping system, including PV panels, inverter, electrical components, and supporting civil works for the inverter room.
