SEAL provided funds to ensure the continuity of mental health services in APEG’s (Association pour la protection des enfants de la guerre) centers.
The 'Centre Medico-Psychologique' was born in 1996 from a partnership between the Lebanese Ministry of Health and the French Service for Humanitarian Action following the 2006 “Grapes of Wrath” military operation in South Lebanon.
The Center’s mission was to evaluate the extent of trauma suffered by the local population – by children in particular – after the 2006 war, and establish a structure capable of treating those victims in need.
Since starting its activities, APEG's team, which includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and speech therapists, carried out close to 20,000 individual consultations at a time when hundreds of distressed civilians were calling the hotline every week.
