Project Aim
Project Summary:
Hamat Municipality, in partnership with Cedar Environmental (CE), is launching a Zero Waste to Landfill program serving 600 households. A compact 50 m² facility will compost organic waste for use in public landscaping and collect recyclable materials for transfer to Cedar Environmental sorting plant, creating a fully sustainable, closed-loop waste system.
The municipality will conduct year-long community outreach to train residents on the required two-bag sorting system (black for organics, blue for recyclables). Proper household sorting is essential for the project’s success. Cedar Environmental will oversee operations and maintenance, with the municipality assuming full operating costs after two years.
Objectives:
This initiative aims to eliminate landfill waste & open dumping, promote recycling and compost use and enhances village cleanliness and environmental awareness.
Implementation Plan:
The municipality is seeking SEAL’s support to implement the Zero Waste initiative. The funding covers: designing and printing training flyers, collection van, three institutional composting bins, operating cost for 2 years.
