LACODE, a local NGO based in Baalbek, operates a successful agro-food processing facility employing over 60 local women and producing Yami, a line of traditional mouneh products distributed through supermarkets, local markets, and food aid networks across Lebanon.
To address challenges such as food waste, limited market access for small-scale producers, and regional economic stagnation, LACODE launched the Farmers & Gastronomy Market in Baalbek, an initiative designed to create a vibrant, sustainable retail space that connects local farmers, food artisans, and entrepreneurs directly with consumers. The market aims to boost livelihoods, stimulate the local economy, and celebrate Baalbek’s rich agricultural and culinary heritage.
The project enhances market access for small producers, empowers women and youth through entrepreneurship and job creation, reduces food waste through improved storage and logistics, and strengthens community ties by establishing a lively, culturally rooted farmers’ market.

LACODE provided the land and managed the design, construction, and operation of the market. SEAL’s grant supported the installation of market stalls (iron and fabric), three air conditioners, six wooden tables with chairs for public dining and tasting areas, signage and branding materials, and comprehensive site rehabilitation including cement flooring, iron structures, drainage, painting, and electrical upgrades to ensure a functional and sustainable market space.
