Following Barbara Municipality’s request, SEAL funded the implementation of a sustainable recycling and waste management initiative that will convert organic waste—including grass, wood, and food scraps—into biomass briquettes for heating and organic compost for agriculture. This environmentally friendly solution was implemented at a newly established solar-powered municipal recycling facility.
In 2024, SEAL awarded Barbara Municipality a grant of $12,600 for the project “Land Restoration for Carob Trees Plantation.”

The project will reduce landfill waste and household energy costs by converting organic waste into biomass briquettes and compost, supporting both eco-friendly practices and local agriculture. It will also ensure the long-term sustainability of the solar-powered municipal recycling facility through community engagement and minimal service fees.

The implementation was led by the Municipality of Barbara, which managed the facility for processing household organic waste. The resulting products will be distributed to residents and farmers at affordable rates.
SEAL’s grant involved the purchase of the following equipment: 2 refurbished 40 feet container composter, hydraulic wood briquette press machine and wood chipper and hammer mill and a vibrating screen machine.
