Description and Impact
This project strengthens agriculture in South Lebanon by transforming unsold crops into marketable goods, thereby reducing waste, creating jobs, and providing farmers with an additional source of income.
The Qlayaa Agricultural Cooperative has launched a new initiative to process surplus crops into value-added products such as tomato paste, jams, and dried fruits. Supported by the Municipality of Qlayaa through the provision of a dedicated facility, the project addresses crop waste while supporting farmers’ livelihoods.
Located in a predominantly agricultural region where most residents rely on farming, the project provides farmers with an outlet for their unsold yields, generates seasonal employment, and revitalizes the local economy.
To enable this effort, SEAL funded the purchase of essential industrial equipment, including a tomato juicer, fruit drying room, fruit slicer, stainless steel utensils and tables, a boiler, washing tub, and mobile bases with strainers.
