Description and Impact
Cultiva is a sustainable agriculture enterprise that produces nutrient-rich potting soil from natural compostable material and green waste collected from farmers. Initially, production was a manual process, leading to time inefficiencies and limiting output to an annual capacity of 60 tons of potting soil. To scale its operations, the enterprise collaborated with SEAL to acquire specialized equipment that would triple its production capacity to 200 tons per year. This equipment, sourced from local manufacturers in Lebanon, was seamlessly integrated into Cultiva's existing processing facility in Kwakh.
With the completion of this project, SEAL has supported a local initiative that promotes import substitution by offering cost-effective organic fertilizer as an alternative to more expensive imported options. The Cultiva potting soil provided to farmers is expected to reduce fertilizer costs by at least 50%.
