This project had two phases: Firstly: the deepening of an existing 100m drilled water well by an additional 50m that improved water supply for the local area of 400,000m², and secondly: the installation of 2000m of long-branch PVC pipes that provided drip irrigation for Anjar’s fruit orchards. Most orchards were using flood irrigation methods, which consumed massive quantities of water. Drip irrigation networks saved as much as 50% of the water used while guaranteeing the effective irrigation needed to assure high-quality produce.
The beneficiaries covered the costs of connecting the emitters from the main pipes to the trees. In addition, a committee under the authority of the municipality offered approximately 40-50% of fruit sale profits to the local school which covered the tuition of up to 100 students.
