Mristy village is dependent on its apple orchards. Since the closure of the land border with Syria – the major trading route for apples – these Mristy farmers in Lebanon have been facing enormous financial distress. This project created access to new markets by creating a new product. Mristy Cooperative launched a factory to dry and package unsold apples as chips. This modest investment improved the economic outlook for 102 farmers and their families. With SEAL’s grant, this factory served as a model that can be replicated throughout the country.
