In 2022 and 2023, SEAL collaborated with AFAD to support farmers. This initiative involved the distribution of 50kg of high-quality wheat and fertilizers to 100 farmers and invested $25,000 in purchasing a 3-wheeled harvester.
The collaboration with AFAD resulted in significant positive outcomes. There was a remarkable 25% increase in arable land, and 500,000m2 of rainfed lands were successfully planted with thriving wheat. The shared use of the harvester contributed to a 50% reduction in harvesting time for all farmers in the designated area, underscoring the initiative's impact on agricultural productivity and efficiency.
Building upon this success, SEAL extended its support to AFAD-backed farmers in the Arsal area.
This support includes providing 100 kg wheat packs to an additional 100 farmers, totaling 10 tons. Furthermore, SEAL plans to invest in 10 hand-held wheat harvesters designed for rougher and steeper terrains, complemented by the purchase of a thresher to streamline the post-harvest wheat collection and sieving process. Both the hand-held wheat harvesters and the thresher will be shared among the 200 farmers in the area, with 100 from the previous project and 100 from this initiative.
Delivery of the machinery grant is scheduled during the harvesting season, optimizing its timely utilization.
In an effort to foster connections among beneficiaries, SEAL has also purchased an additional 20 tons of wheat, bringing the total to 30T, from NDC farmers who previously received equipment support. This additional wheat was distributed to farmers in Koura as part of the specified project.
