The 'Centre Medico-Psychologique' was born in 1996 from a partnership between the Lebanese Ministry of Health and the French Service for Humanitarian Action, following the 'Grapes of Wrath' military operation launched in South Lebanon.

Its mission was to evaluate the extent of the trauma suffered by the local population in general, and by children in particular, and establish a structure capable of treating individuals suffering from war trauma.

In 2000, French financing of the centers ceased and the Lebanese government failed to take over. Faced with increasing popularity and undeniable increased demand for mental healthcare, APEG was created to sustain the survival of five centers (Tyre, Sidon, Beirut, Zahle and Tripoli) and the continuity of mental health services.

Since it started its activities, APEG's team which includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and speech therapists carried out close to 20,000 individuals consultations and provided invaluable assistance, especially in trying times such as this summer when hundreds of civilians in distress were calling their hotline every week.

SEAL provided funds to ensure the continuity of mental health services in APEG's centers.
